Arsenal news: Fans take aim at Unai Emery as TWO stars left out against Newcastle | Football | Sport
The Gunners have endured a mixed start to the season but are slowly finding their form under their new boss.
Last time out, before the international break, Arsenal beat Cardiff 3-2 away from home to make it two victories on the spin in the league.
For that reason, Emery has opted to field the same starting XI at St. James’ Park this afternoon.
However, Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan two notable absentees – Lucas Torreira and Bernd Leno.
The duo were brought in over the summer by Emery but both have failed to start a league game under the Spaniard so far this term.
Torreira is currently being kept out of the first-team by fellow new arrival Matteo Guendouzi, while Leno can’t displace Petr Cech in between the sticks.
And fans in north London are not happy at the decision.
One wrote: “Why did we buy Torreira, Leno and Lichsteiner for them to never play?”
One said: “Still no Leno or Torreira…”
Another wrote: “What more does Torreira need to do to start?”
A fellow Arsenal fan said: “Where’s Leno? Where’s Torreira?!”
And one added: “Unai Emery is as stubborn as Arsenal Wenger!”
But Arsenal fans will be buoyed by the news Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are starting up front in the north east this afternoon.
The latter struggled to break into the Gunners side at the start of the season but has flourished when played alongside his strike partner in recent weeks.
Arsenal will be hoping for a better afternoon against Newcastle this afternoon after losing 2-1 at St. James’ Park earlier this year.
