Arsenal star Mesut Ozil reveals truth behind Unai Emery relationship after Newcastle goal | Football | Sport
Ozil was left out of the Arsenal squad which faced West Ham last month and reports claimed he had been dropped by Emery after he would be on the bench.
Speaking after that match, Emery said Ozil had simply been struggling with illness and he was fit to start the following week against Cardiff.
Ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Newcastle, Emery insisted he was on good terms with Ozil.
And Ozil showed his class for the Gunners with a well-taken finish to put them 2-0 ahead against Newcastle.
Ciaran Clark got a late consolation but Arsenal held on to win their third game in a row.
Speaking after the match, Ozil was asked about Emery and dismissed the speculation of a rift with the manager.
Ozil said: “I am very happy to play for Arsenal and especially for the new coach.
“He knows what he wants and the team accepts that, we have a good relationship.
“We score and we are happy, even the players that don’t play, we are all team.”
It was Ozil’s 200th appearance for Arsenal and his first at St James’ Park after five years at the club.
And German ace was delighted to take all three points.
He said: “I’m happy but most important we take the three points.
“Congratulations to the whole team, we played well. Newcastle were good, aggressive. We showed our passion and took the points.”
