Arsenal transfer news: Bernd Leno claim as Gunners battle Napoli
At least that’s what Sky Sports Italia journalist Luca Marchetti has claimed while discussing Napoli’s summer transfer business.
Leno looks set to leave Leverkusen after Heiko Herrlich lured Lukas Hradecky away from Eintracht Frankfurt to become his new No 1.
The 26-year-old Germany international is not short of suitors though, with Arsenal and Napoli both eager to secure his signature.
Marchetti has now suggested Arsenal will be hoping to steal a march on Napoli as Leno edges closer towards the BayArena exit door.
“[Federico] Chiesa remains [at Fiorentina],” Marchetti told RMC Sport.
“There is a project of growth and the common will to continue together for at least another year.
“It is not a price problem; Naples have offered €50m (£44m) plus two players: Fiorentina does not sell him now.
“Napoli fans do not have to worry. The players who run around the club maybe now are not very famous but they will become: [Fabian] Ruiz is strong, Real [Madrid] want him too.
“Leno, instead, is disputed by Arsenal.”
Marchetti’s claims come after Italian agent Fabio Parisi revealed Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Liverpool are not seriously pursuing Leno.
“I take care of the negotiation with Naples, I do not think the interest of the Reds is concrete,” said Parisi.
“There may be other interested English clubs, but I do not think the Napoli contender could be Liverpool.”
Arsenal have also been linked with Sergio Rico and Jack Butland as they look for a new goalkeeper.
Petr Cech and David Ospina shared duties this season but could both move on ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
