Arsenal transfer news: Dennis Praet update after Gunners asked Sampdoria about midfielder
Arsenal are in the midst of a summer overhaul which has seen Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis Papastathopoulos join Unai Emery’s squad.
Those new boys were joined at the Emirates this week by Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira, with the Uruguay international joining the Gunners from Sampdoria.
The latest reports in Italy claim Arsenal have also shown interest in one of Torreira’s former team-mates, Praet.
However, it seems the attacking midfielder could continue plying his trade in Serie A if he does call time on his Sampdoria career.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Arsenal requested information about Praet at the end of May.
But it is said he is most likely to join one of Sampdoria’s rivals if he leaves the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Tutto Mercato Web indicate reigning Serie A champions Juventus have their eye on Praet as their spending spree continues.
While Lazio have cast their sights towards him too as Simone Inzaghi gears up for the 2018/19 campaign.
Praet is available for a fixed £23m (€26m) fee due to a release clause written into his contract.
And that would allow Sampdoria to double their money on the 24-year-old, who they bought from Anderlecht in 2016.
Emery kept his cards close to his chest when asked on Thursday about Arsenal’s remaining transfer business.
“Normally, in my career the big clubs don’t close the [door] or the moment to sign a new player,” said Emery.
“Today, we are OK. Maybe we can bring in one if there’s a very good possibility for them to help us, but the club has done a great job of signing new players and I am happy.”
