ARSENAL are poised to offload head of performance Darren Burgess after manager Unai Emery held an inquest into an end-of-season slump.
The Gunners faded to fifth in the Premier League and a 4-1 humbling by Chelsea in the Europa League final.
And the Mail say Aussie fitness expert Burgess is the main victim of a review by Emery following the Spaniard’s first campaign in charge.
Emery’s predecessor Arsene Wenger handpicked Burgess two years ago.
He had helped Australia prepare for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Then he made his name in the Prem as Liverpool’s head of fitness and performance under Kenny Dalglish, Roy Hodgson and Brendan Rodgers from 2010-2012.
And before Wenger nabbed him, Burgess was working for Australian Rules side Port Adelaide.
At Arsenal he worked in a team with fellow specialists in medicine, psychology and performance analysis.
But Emery was clearly not convinced, especially after the Gunners picked up just four points in their final five Prem games.
That proved costly as Arsenal finished a single point below Tottenham and two adrift of third-placed Chelsea.
