Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde handed Denis Suarez a rare appearance off the bench against Levante and the midfielder took his opportunity with both hands.

Two goals inside the opening 18 minutes from Erick Cabaco and Borja Mayoral stunned Barca but Suarez produced a moment of brilliance to win his side a penalty at the death.

Unai Emery will no doubt have been watching on as Suarez nutmegged Coke before turning Moses Simon inside out. Coke scrambled back to his feet only to scythe his opponent down with a reckless challenge as he was haring in on goal.

Philippe Coutinho converted the resulting spot-kick and Levante head into the second leg of the Copa Del Rey last-16 tie at the Nou Camp with only a 2-1 advantage.

Arsenal fans will no doubt have been licking their lips as Suarez gracefully slalomed his way around Levante’s hapless defenders. The Gunners are reportedly closing in on a loan deal for the talented Spain international this January.

Will we be seeing this kind of trickery at the Emirates in the not-too-distant future?

Emery, who worked with Suarez at Sevilla, has made no secret of his interest in the Spaniard but revealed that Arsenal are only prepared to make loan signings this winter.

‘We can’t sign with payment for one player. We can only loan players,’ he said ahead of Arsenal’s clash with West Ham.

‘The club is working. The club is telling me each moment that different situations can happen for recruitment. But at the moment I don’t have new news on that.

‘But we can only sign on a loan and I know the club is working for the possibility of players who can help us with this condition.’
