Mesut Ozil could force Unai Emery out of Arsenal like Neymar did at PSG – Ray Parlour

That is the warning from ex-Arsenal star Ray Parlour, who reckons Ozil has a decision to make over his future.

Ozil has been ostracised from Emery’s starting XI in recent weeks.

He has been granted just one start in their last nine games and was left out of the squad that beat Huddersfield 2-1 on Saturday.

Ozil is Arsenal’s highest earner, taking home £350,000 a week at the Emirates.

And Parlour sees similarities between the German’s situation and what Emery faced with Neymar at PSG during the 2017/18 campaign.

“It’s been a little bit (like) PSG under Neymar,” Parlour said.

“Neymar ended up getting him (Emery) the sack.

“He lost the dressing room and Neymar was pulling the strings there.

“Maybe it could be the same at Arsenal.”

Emery left PSG at the end of last season after failing to secure the French side Champions League glory.

His relationship with Neymar – the £200m arrival from Barcelona in the summer of 2017 – was the topic of much debate last season.

Emery did not personally pursue Neymar but instead the player was bought by the club to act as their talisman going forward.

Likewise, Emery inherited Ozil – who joined Arsenal for £42m in 2013 – instead of buying the German.

And Parlour reckons the time is coming for Ozil to make a decision on his future.

Asked if Ozil will leave soon, Parlour said: “It looks like that way. I go back to the dilemma of what Arsenal have got.

“He’s on £350,000 a week. Who is going to pay that sort of money?

“There’s got to be a time in your career, when you’re over 30 you know you’re on a slippery slope. You have to come to a decision (whether to leave or not).

“He could stick his heels in and sit out his contract, and say ‘play me when you want’. The players hold all the power.

“When you’re left out you want a reaction from the player – especially from training. Show the attitude you want to get back into the team somehow.

“I don’t know what he’s been like in training.”
