Chelsea news: Asmir Begovic reveals Eden Hazard penalty secret | Football | Sport
That is according to Bournemouth goalkeeper and Hazard’s former Chelsea team-mate Asmir Begovic.
Hazard scored his second Chelsea hat-trick on Saturday in the 4-1 win over Cardiff at Stamford Bridge.
His third goal was from the spot meaning he has missed just two of his 17 penalties in the Premier League.
Begovic revealed he saved a couple of Hazard’s penalties in training but says the Belgian’s power in such a short run-up is his strength.
“I certainly tried my best (to save them),” he said on Goals on Sunday.
“I’ve saved a couple here and there. He has a very, very short run up.
“He can go either side and even if you wait for him until the absolute last second, he has very good pace.
“He can generate a lot of power on the ball.
“So even if you wait and go the right way, he’s placed it beyond you.
“When he’s on it, when he wants to do what he wants properly, then it’s very difficult to save.”
Goalkeepers analyse opposition penalty takers in the lead up to matches.
But Begovic says Eden Hazard changes his technique which makes it even harder for the men between the sticks.
“He changes it on a weekly basis,” Begovic added on the Chelsea star.
“He’s got a low-centre of gravity, he’s got a smaller body, he can change at the last minute.
“If he opens up his foot to go one way, he makes you want to go that way, then he just turns his foot around and go the other way.
“So it’s a very, very difficult one and world-class players from 12 yards are difficult to stop.”
