Chelsea news: Eden Hazard receives Real Madrid and Barcelona ultimatum | Football | Sport
That is the view of former Chelsea player Boudewijn Zenden.
Hazard has enjoyed a blistering start to the season with seven goals in eight games for Chelsea.
His form has led to renewed links with Real Madrid, who Hazard has made no secret he would like to play for.
At the recent FIFA awards, Hazard was seventh behind a top three of Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah.
Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have monopolised the award for the last 10 years while playing for Real and Barcelona respectively.
And Zenden believes Hazard must play for either club if he wants to be recognised as the best.
“It will be hard for Chelsea to keep him, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain around,” Zenden told the Mirror.
“He needs a move to Barcelona or Madrid to be up there, classed with the best in the world.
“Yes, he has done it in England.
“But with that platform of having played for the likes of Barcelona or Real, that is what they look for when they decide the player of the year.”
Despite Zenden’s belief, Hazard says a move in January is not possible.
“Chelsea were clear with me [in the summer],” he told French outlet Telefoot.
“I couldn’t leave the club. I accepted it. Anyway… leaving or staying, I was going to be happy. I do not regret this decision at all.
“When decisions are made [that you may not like] you can sulk and often you get the last word.
“But I will never look to clash with the club. Chelsea have given me a lot. I left Lille on good terms and I want to do the same thing here.
“A transfer in January? It’s not possible.”
