Chelsea news: Ruben Loftus-Cheek wanted at Crystal Palace | Football | Sport
Loftus-Cheek excelled on loan at Crystal Palace last season and returned to Chelsea this summer hoping to break into the first team.
But just two substitute appearances under manager Maurizio Sarri has sparked concerns one of England’s brightest young talents could be wasted at the Blues.
A move back to Selhurst Park over the summer was not forthcoming but Hodgson admits the England international is still on his radar.
“If the question is should Ruben Loftus-Cheek be made available in January, would Crystal Palace be interested in loaning him again, then the answer is yes,” Hodgson said at his press conference on Thursday.
However, the former England managed admitted the Eagles are not close to securing a January deal.
“I can’t answer ‘is that what you are looking at’, because how can I look at it?” he said.
“He is a Chelsea player and I have no idea if he is going to be available in January, so what can I look at?”
Loftus-Cheek has made two substitute appearances for Chelsea so far this season.
Yet he started for England in their 1-0 friendly win over Switzerland this week and made four World Cup appearances over the summer.
Unlike many of Chelsea’s youngsters, Loftus-Cheek has not been farmed out to the loan market during his development years.
It was only last summer that the Blues granted him permission to play elsewhere, with Palace snapping him up for the campaign.
Chelsea have a habit of shipping out their young players on loan and earning a fee from the recipient clubs for the privilege.
They currently have 40 players out at other sides across Europe.
