Chelsea transfer news: Daniele Rugani targeted by Blues as Maurizio Sarri deal rumbles on
Chelsea are set for a summer of change following a disappointing season which their FA Cup final win failed to paper over.
Sarri remains the most likely candidate to replace Conte in the Stamford Bridge hotseat, despite a deal being held up by Napoli demanding compensation for him.
Sarri is likely to make a cluster of new signings as he looks to overhaul the squad he will inherit from Conte at Chelsea.
It seems the Italian is eager to be reunited with one of his former charges if he takes over in west London this summer.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Chelsea are ready and waiting to pounce for Rugani.
And a move will be driven by Sarri, under whom the centre-back played at Empoli.
Sarri’s prospective Chelsea switch was being worked on by Alessandro Pellegrini and Fali Ramadani on Wednesday.
Talks between Pellegrini and Ramadani were conducted in Milan, where discussions regarding Rugani took place on Thursday.
Tutto Mercato Web indicate Juventus chief Fabio Paratici and Rugani’s agent, Davide Torchia, met at Palazzo Parigi.
And they talked over Rugani’s future, with “a goodbye or a [contract] renewal” apparently on the cards.
Paratici and Torchia’s discussions could bear fruit for Chelsea if Juventus decide to let him leave the Allianz Stadium.
They may have a clear run at Rugani due to the fact previous rivals Lazio are no longer in the hunt to sign him.
Chelsea could be about to bid farewell to one of their own defenders, with Arsenal sniffing around.
The Gunners are said to have made a £17.5m offer for David Luiz, who fell out of favour under Conte this season.
