Chelsea transfer news: Eden Hazard promise made amid Barcelona and Real Madrid links
That’s according to ESPN FC reporter Gabriele Marcotti, who suggests the Barcelona links are only being made to try and worry Real chiefs.
Hazard is still currently in Russia with Belgium getting ready for a World Cup third place play-off match against England tomorrow (3pm BST).
But speculation over his future at Chelsea has been ongoing for several months now with Real seemingly the frontrunners for his signature.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s £88million move to Juventus has opened the door for the Champions League winners to make at least one superstar signing this summer.
And Hazard recently dropped another hint over heading to the Bernabeu stating, despite Zinedine Zidane leaving, that joining Real would still be a “dream”.
However, Marcotti reports Chelsea will still get a chance to convince the 27-year-old to stay in west London.
“I don’t expect much to happen because Eden Hazard is right here in Russia, at least for the next few days,” Marcotti said on ESPN FC.
“My understanding is his agent has promised Chelsea clear shot at extending his deal.
“I think he’s going to want to wait and see what the makes of the new manager – Maurizio Sarri.
“From Chelsea’s perspective, they need him to commit to a long-term deal, otherwise at that stage it makes sense to sell him now while you can still get full value.
“He’s been linked with Real Madrid and inevitably now comes the Barcelona link.
“I would imagine in some ways Real Madrid might be a more logical destination given that, in addition to Suarez and Messi, Barcelona already have Ousmane Dembele as well as Philippe Coutinho.”
