Chelsea transfer news: Juventus boss responds to question about Gonzalo Higuain leaving
That is the verdict of the Old Lady gaffer himself, who kept his cards close to his chest when asked about the striker leaving Turin.
Higuain has been tipped to head for the Allianz Stadium exit after Juventus bought Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
Chelsea has been touted as a potential destination for the Argentine, who played under new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri at Napoli.
AC Milan are likewise interested in securing the hitman’s services as they gear up for next season.
Allegri was noncommittal when Higuain’s future was brought up in the build-up to Juventus’ showdown with the MLS All-Stars.
But he was happy to state a decision on the 30-year-old will be made by the club rather than by himself.
“I am not in charge of the transfer market, that is up to the club,” said Allegri, when asked about Higuain.
“I don’t even have a [senior] striker here, so let’s see [about transfers] because we still have to return to Italy.
“When the market closes on the 17th [of August] the Juventus squad will be as competitive as ever.
“The club has worked very well and after this week of work we will go back.
“After that, we’ll take stock of the window, which will be an excellent one regardless of what happens next.”
Higuain is not the only Juventus player Chelsea have got their eye on as transfer deadline day draws closer.
Daniele Rugani, Mattia Caldara and Miralem Pjanic are in Maurizio Sarri’s sights as well.
