Chelsea transfer news: Milinkovic-Savic wants Blues move as Lazio hope for Man Utd bid
Chelsea have reportedly made a ‘monster’ offer for Milinkovic-Savic as they aim to make him their next summer signing.
But Lazio are hoping to drive up the price with a bidding war between three of Europe’s big guns, according to Calcio Mercato.
The Serbia international was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but, in the wake of their decision to sign Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk, a transfer doesn’t look on the cards.
Chelsea are now favourites to land the 23-year-old with Maurizio Sarri hoping to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Calcio Mercato suggest Milinkovic-Savic delayed his return to Lazio after the World Cup to force through a move to Stamford Bridge.
Negotiations at present, however, are complicated by Lazio’s determination to secure as big a fee as possible.
Milinkovic-Savic missed the first day of pre-season training yesterday, blaming a missed flight. His agent said: “Sergej has only missed his flight due to a major road accident on the highway that leads from Belgrade to the airport.
“And he will start working with the team, then he will do the usual medical check-ups tomorrow morning.
“A move to force himself onto the market? Nothing like this: between me, Lazio and the player there is no problem, everything is ok.”
Calcio Mercato say, though, he is keen on joining Chelsea.
Yet Lazio have snubbed their latest offer of £102million and playmaker Charly Musonda.
President of the Serie A giants, Claudio Lotito, now wants Manchester United to join the bidding.
He supposedly values his midfielder at a huge £133m – meaning any transfer would make him the fifth most-expensive player of all time behind Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.
If United get involved, he feels the price will only rise.
But whether they choose to intervene to stop Chelsea signing Milinkovic-Savic remains to be seen with Jose Mourinho battling with Ed Woodward over late deals before next week’s deadline.
