Chelsea transfer news: Robert Lewandowski deal not being ruled out just yet
The Bayern Munich striker has been strongly linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena this summer, with Chelsea and Manchester United both in the hunt.
Real Madrid have also been keeping tabs on the Poland international as they seek a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Juventus earlier this month.
And according to the Daily Star, Lewandowski has always been the Blues’ top target.
Maurizio Sarri is hoping to beef up his frontline and with Alvaro Morata’s woes last term, a deal is being worked on to sign Gonzalo Higuain.
Olivier Giroud could also make way after just six months at Stamford Bridge and the Star claim Sarri will try his best to push through a deal for Lewandowski.
This is despite Bayern steadfastly refusing to let Lewandowski leave this summer.
“He will not leave this club,” Bayern coach Niko Kovac said.
“We certainly don’t want to let him go.
“It’s true that Robert toys with going elsewhere. One thing is what he wants, and the other is what we want.
“It’s our decision. Robert has a contract – I don’t know how long – and will stay here as long as possible.
“We want to achieve a lot with him.
“He is a great footballer who has already achieved a lot in the Bundesliga, has scored many goals and will now score many goals in the new season.”
