Aston Villa U23 1-2 Derby County U23 – live Premier League Cup coverage – Derbyshire Live

Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Derby County Under-23s’ Premier League Cup clash against Aston Villa .

The young Rams go into the game in second place in Group F, knowing a point would be enough to virtually guarantee themselves qualification.

Derby have seven points from their four games and sit five points ahead of third-placed Plymouth Argyle. A point for Darren Wassall’s men would mean even if Plymouth won, Derby would be three points ahead with one game left – and have a +6 goal difference compared to Plymouth’s -5.

Tonight’s opponents, Villa, are top of the table with 12 points and have won all four of their group games so far, while Bristol City are rock bottom with just one point.

Derby’s last Premier League Cup game was a 4-0 win over Plymouth last month, but they did suffer a 1-0 defeat last week to Chelsea in the Premier League 2 clash at Moor Farm.

The last time these two sides met was in early November, when Villa claimed a 1-0 victory over the young Rams at the Loughborough University Stadium.
