Jamie Carragher notices SNEAKY Tottenham tactic during Liverpool clash | Football | Sport
The home side were 1-0 down at the interval after a Georginio Wijnaldum goal midway through the first period.
The Dutchman headed home to score his first away goal in the Premier League after Michael Vorm flapped at a James Milner corner then failed to stop the ball travelling narrowly over the line.
Mauricio Pochettino will have given his players a rousing team talk in the Wembley dressing room.
But Carragher noticed some extra under-hand tactics from the home side during the half-time break.
The pundit and former Liverpool star tweeted: “Spurs just watering the pitch in their attacking half?!!”
Carragher has been given a rare Saturday off and is not on punditry duties this afternoon but clearly noticed Spurs’ groundsmen were not watering one half of the pitch when the Sky Sports camera showed the pitch at half-time.
Pochettino made it very clear this week that he was desperate for his side to take all three points against the Reds this weekend.
“After Manchester United, all the signals from the team were that we were going to crash,” he said.
“We cannot talk about winning the Premier League [after Old Trafford] and the job is done.
“You needed to come in and ask for more training. Of course, I am the guilty one because I saw but I could not change the situation.
“We weren’t right in the way we prepared and that is why it’s still so painful.
“To win now against Liverpool can change the mood and the perception but if we win, we would then have to win against Brighton next Saturday because you need to be consistent.
“It’s not to be focused and right in one game and then the job is done.
“Football is about energy over 10 months.”
Spurs had enjoyed a perfect start to the season before self-destructing against Watford before the international break.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have enjoyed the perfect start to the campaign.
