Liverpool and Chelsea dealt transfer blow over Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic
The Premier League rivals have reportedly been keeping tabs on the USA international over the summer.
Pulisic’s current deal with the Bundesliga side runs until 2020.
The attacker scored five goals and made seven assists for Dortmund last season.
Liverpool were believed to be leading the race for the 19-year-old but reports over the last few days say that Chelsea have upped their interest.
But according to ESPN FC, Dortmund have received no formal bids for Pulisic and expect him to remain with the club for the coming season.
However, the report also adds that the German outfit would be willing to sell the teenager next summer if fails to agree a new deal.
In 2014, Dortmund allowed Robert Lewandowski to move to Bayern Munich for free at the end of his contract – something the club are hoping to avoid with Pulisic.
Meanwhile, ESPN FC pundit Paul Mariner reckons the winger should spend another season in Germany but suggested Liverpool would be a better destination for him if he decides to leave this summer.
He said: “Looking at it purely and simply from the player’s viewpoint, I’d stay at Dortmund for another year.
“But if I was going to go, I’d go to Liverpool.
“He knows (Jurgen) Klopp, Klopp knows him, he’d be fantastic to come in and out for (Sadio) Mane and (Mohamed) Salah.
“I think that would be a better move.”
