Liverpool news: Michael Edwards agrees with Jurgen Klopp on Barcelona ace Ousmane Dembele | Football | Sport
Liverpool have been linked with Barcelona forward Dembele, despite having an already formidable crop of forwards consisting of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturbridge and Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Reds are flying high in the Premier League but, with Manchester City looking formidable and Chelsea snapping at their heels, more investment could happen.
Liverpool have emerged as suitors for Barcelona forward Dembele, who has struggled under Ernesto Valverde since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017.
Klopp was Dembele’s landlord when the player was strutting his stuff at Dortmund.
And the Sun have claimed he wants to secure the services of the France international.
However, they also say that Edwards is on board and would be willing to agree to a potential transfer.
Edwards oversees the Reds’ transfer activity and, in recent times, has made some big signings.
Salah, who landed from Roma last July, was a bargain at just £35million.
And the Reds flexed their financial muscles in January by snapping up Virgil van Dijk for £75m.
The Sun say Edwards is looking for a forward, and Dembele – given Klopp’s interest in him – would fit the bill.
However, speaking recently, his agent insisted the World Cup winner was keen to fight for his Barcelona future.
“He is 21 and is playing for Barcelona,” Moussa Sissoko told RMC Sport.
“He has six goals and two assists, I don’t understand his critics.
“We are aware that he has to improve, that’s clear. He is 21 and it’s normal.
“Ousmane will keep working hard.”
Liverpool were linked with Dembele prior to his Barcelona move.
But the Catalan giants’ willingness to cough up £134m to sign him ultimately swung the pendulum their way.
