Liverpool transfer news: Michael Owen makes Real Madrid transfer prediction
The window reopened today meaning English clubs are now free to splash the cash again.
All eyes, however, are on Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian superstar has scored 44 goals this season and he is attracting interest from Real Madrid.
But former Liverpool star Owen gave Reds fans a heartening boost ahead of the Champions League final by declaring that Salah is going nowhere.
He told Marca: “I think it’s normal that Real Madrid are interested in all the best players in the world, that’s exactly how it has to be and how the club should work, but I don’t think Salah is going to leave.
“I think Salah is very happy at Liverpool, he has had a great season and will be a key part in the exciting times ahead.”
Salah sat a new Premier League record of 32 goals in a season to earn a shot at winning the Ballon d’Or.
Asked who will win it, Owen said: “I think a lot will depend on who wins the Champions League. If Real Madrid wins, then Cristiano Ronaldo will be there once more.
“If Liverpool does it, Salah would be favourite. He has been absolutely brilliant this year, and has done very well in the Egypt team, taking them to the World Cup.”
Salah this week admitted he always had a drive to return to the Premier League to prove his critics wrong and now hopes the season will have a special end to it.
“It was always on my mind to perform the best I can,” he told easports.com.
“I had two great seasons in Rome but it was always on my mind to come back to the Premier League to show the people who said I didn’t succeed here the first time and prove that I can be a success in the Premier League.”
Manager Jurgen Klopp’s influence – and his tactics – helped Salah hit the ground running and the 25-year-old recognises the input the German has had.
“You know, before everything we are friends. I like him a lot,” added the Egyptian, who is looking to add to his 44 goals this season against Real Madrid.
“He has helped me a lot to do what I’m doing on the field and off it.
“I have to thank him for everything he has done this year. I really respect him a lot and I’m sure we are going to do something special for the club this year to end it.”
