Liverpool vs PSG: Salah, Mane and Firmino or Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani? Kirkland’s verdict | Football | Sport
That is the view of former Reds goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, who insists he would not swap the forwards for Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.
Mbappe and Neymar alone cost the Parisians £350 million, while Cavani set the club back a whopping £60 million.
Last season, the trio scored a scorching 60 league goals between them, despite Neymar’s season finishing in February due to injury.
That was not enough to convince Kirkland, however, who stressed that he would prefer the Liverpool attacking contingent of Mane, Firmino and Salah.
’The Fab Three’, as they were nicknamed, totalled 57 Premier League goals last season.
Kirkland explained that it was tough to compare the two attacking forces.
“It’s difficult to say because they’re playing in different leagues,” Kirkland told Love Sport Radio.
“I’d like to see how them three got on in the Premier League and vice versa.
“I think if you compare them playing in the same league that’s slightly easier.
“They’re all fantastic players, we know what they can do, but I wouldn’t swap them for the three we’ve got at the moment.”
Kirkland also said that Firmino would be a big miss to the team if he was unable to play against PSG.
The Brazilian forward suffered an eye injury during Saturday’s victory over Tottenham, after Jan Verthongen appeared to accidentally poke him in the eye.
“Firmino is a big, big, big loss,” Kirkland said.
“It was a nasty one. So I’m not too sure if he will play.
“He’ll be desperate to play, who’s not going to want to play in that game? But I think the medical team might have to have a serious look at it.
“If not, you can bring Sturridge or you can move Salah into the middle of the front three and bring Shaqiri on to start.”
Liverpool vs Paris Saint-Germain kicks off at 8pm and Firmino has been named on the bench.
