Dejan Lovren transfer latest as Liverpool defender targeted by AC Milan

Liverpool will demand a fee in the region of £25million for Dejan Lovren this summer.

The Croatia international has emerged as a target for Italian giants AC Milan this summer.

The Rossoneri are keen to strengthen after missing out on a top four spot in Serie A, and are looking to bring in a new centre-half.

Lovren, who turns 30 next month, is reportedly one of the players being analysed.

Reports in Italy on Wednesday claimed that preliminary talks have been held, but it’s understood that that is not the case amid changes among Milan’s top brass, with a new sporting director being installed.

Lovren lifts the European Cup

However, should Milan or any other potential suitors come calling, the Reds will demand big-money for Lovren, despite his having fallen down the pecking order on Merseyside.

Virgil van Dijk is firmly entrenched as first choice, with Joel Matip having ended the season as his main partner, having impressed.

Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of Joe Gomez, who himself shone in the early part of the campaign before an injury set-back.

The England defender is expected to push Matip for a starting spot again next term, while Lovren was limited to just 18 appearances for the Champions League winners.

Decision time for Klopp

That leaves ex-Southampton stopper Lovren as fourth choice and dispensible.

Lovren has two years left on his deal at Anfield, so the Merseysiders’ are under no pressure to sell.

But sporting director Michael Edwards is earning a reputation for extracting top value for players when they are moved on, and this summer is likely the club’s best option to do just that where Lovren is concerned.

If they do sell then 17-year-old Dutch starlet Ki Jana Hoever is likely to be offered more first-team exposure next term.
