Irish youngsters Caoimhin Kelleher and Corey Whelan have joined the Liverpool first-team squad on a warm-weather training camp in Marbella.

20-year-old Corkman Kelleher and Whelan, a 21-year-old defender, were among a squad of 31 players who flew to Spain for the week-long camp.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was another notable name to travel as he continues his comeback from multiple knee ligament damage he sustained in last season’s Champions League semi final first leg against Roma.

Highly-rated Kelleher was named in Liverpool’s squad for the first time in their FA Cup defeat to Wolves in January and is Liverpool’s third-choice keeper behind Allison and Mignolet.

“We will go away for a couple of days so we can really focus on training,” Klopp said.

“The players don’t have to drive between sessions, things like that – a little change of scenery again.

“It always worked out pretty well for me as a manager when I had the opportunity to do it – to be 100% focused and have a couple of meetings.

“We’d have done it even if we were 10 points clear. We do it because we have time because we play the Champions League game a week later.”
