The Lyon midfielder came very close to joining Liverpool last summer.
According to a report from French media outlet Le Progres, Liverpool are still exploring the possibility of signing Lyon ace Nabil Fekir, but the Frenchman doesn’t hold the same ‘aura’ that he once did.
The France international’s proposed £53 million (The Times) move to Anfield famously collapsed last summer after Liverpool pulled the plug late on, due to concerns over the midfield play-maker’s fitness.
Jurgen Klopp’s side eventually went on to finish in second spot in the Premier League table, missing out to Manchester City by just one point.
It could be argued that the one thing that Liverpool lacked was that little bit of magic in the middle of the park, and Fekir would surely be just the ticket for them next season, if they are to reach the next level.
French publication Le Progres claims that the 25-year-old is still an option for the Reds, but Lyon would not be able to command a fee anywhere near their original valuation of the Frenchman.
Whether Liverpool do decide to actually make an offer for Fekir this summer, however remains to be seen. He is out of contract next summer, so Lyon might just be forced into selling him for a drastically reduced price.
