Man Utd boost as Juventus star a doubt for Champions League clash: Cristiano Ronaldo calm | Football | Sport
The former Liverpool midfielder has a thyroid problem and might have to go under the knife after being left out of the squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Genoa.
A statement from the club said: “Emre Can will undergo clinical tests and investigations for a thyroid nodule that could also require surgical treatment.”
If he does require surgery, the Germany international could also miss the reverse fixture at the Juventus Stadium on Wednesday, November 7.
Meanwhile, the match sees Cristiano Ronaldo return to Old Trafford, and his boss Massimiliano Allegri insists he is calm ahead of what could be an emotional night.
“Ronaldo, he’s very calm, he’s focused,” Allegri said.
“He’s a champion in the field and mentally, he wants to score and to do well.”
Ronaldo has scored five goals in ten games in all competitors since making the switch from Real Madrid in the summer.
And the Portuguese star has added assists to his goalscoring threat this season, chipping in with four already in 2018-19 – just one fewer than he managed for Real in the whole of the last campaign.
And Allegri praised his impact on the team since arriving in Italy.
“He’s been very humble and has brought even more focus and a sense of responsibility to the team,” he said.
“Besides scoring goals, which he does best, he’s also great at providing assists.”
Ronaldo became the first player to fire 400 goals in the top five European leagues when he bagged the opening goal against Genoa.
As well as scoring five for Juve, he netted 84 times in the Premier League while at United and scored a whopping 311 La Liga goals for Real.
