Man Utd news: Alexis Sanchez awaiting shock Jose Mourinho development as poor form goes on | Football | Sport
Manchester United lured Sanchez away from Arsenal in January with Mourinho beating Manchester City to secure the player’s signature.
That move, however, has backfired with the Chile international scoring just four times since his blockbuster switch.
Sanchez reportedly wants to leave Manchester United with PSG and Real Madrid both emerging as frontrunners to secure his signature.
And Spanish website Ok Diario claim he is ‘counting down the days’ until Mourinho leaves his post as manager.
The 55-year-old promised Sanchez a starring role.
He had, after all, signed one of the best players in the Premier League when the forward touched down from Arsenal 11 months ago.
However, Mourinho has not necessarily given him the freedom to be an Old Trafford hit.
Sanchez has often been deployed on the left wing, where he has jostled with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for a starting berth.
But, at Arsenal, he was at his brilliant best down the middle.
Sanchez has recently been deployed there for United, impressing in matches against Juventus and Bournemouth.
But he was benched on Sunday for the Manchester derby with Mourinho choosing to give Marcus Rashford the job of leading the line.
Ok Diario claim Sanchez is furious at that snub, with the Chilean managing to get just 17 minutes under his belt.
And Mourinho, it seems, is seen as the root of his problems.
United are, however, determined to stand by their manager until the end of the season.
Mourinho must supposedly finish in the top four to have any chance of being at United for a fourth season on the trot.
And, if he is unable to achieve that, then the Red Devils are willing to wield the axe.
Mauricio Pochettino would be their No 1 candidate to replace Mourinho.
But what that could mean for Sanchez remains to be seen.
