Man Utd news: Paul Scholes issues Zinedine Zidane warning with Jose Mourinho on the brink | Football | Sport
That is according to United legend Paul Scholes.
Scholes is not convinced that Zidane would turn his old club’s fortunes around straight away – stating that the job differs from his time at Real Madrid.
Speaking to BT Sport, Scholes had a stark warning for United fans.
“Is Zidane the right man, though?,” Scholes said.
“He went in to Real Madrid, who had a group of ready-made winners already.
“This is a totally different job; he would have to rebuild confidence with a squad that isn’t quite performing.”
Zidane took over at Real Madrid in 2016 after previously managing their B team.
The legendary midfielder won a La Liga title for the Spanish giants before going on to win an unprecedented three consecutive Champions Leagues.
Zidane, however, decided to end his time with Madrid on a high and surprisingly quit at the end of last season.
Scholes noted the talent that the 46-year-old had at his discretion during his time in Spain.
“He went to Real Madrid with so many great players, it was still difficult, but this would be a whole rebuilding job,” he added.
Scholes then pondered why things haven’t quite gone Mourinho’s way this season.

“I think the assistant (leaving) is the big one,” he said.
“Rui Faria was with him for a long time, he had been at every club with him.
“All of a sudden he is gone and apparently, I don’t know, but apparently he was very influential in what he did day to day. He’s lost that and he (Jose Mourinho) does look a bit lonely at times. I think that’s a big part of it.”
The Red Devils have been on a dismal Premier League run as of late, picking up only three points in their last four games – with their last win coming away at Bournemouth at the beginning of November.
They’ll have the opportunity to return to winning ways on Saturday, though, when they host struggling Fulham.
