Man Utd news: Sky Sports pundit makes worrying Pep Guardiola claim about Jose Mourinho | Football | Sport
That is the verdict of Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal and England striker Alan Smith.
Guardiola’s Manchester City side look set to once again stage a serious challenge for the Premier League title this season.
Guardiola led the Sky Blues to a record-breaking title win last term in his second campaign in charge.
City are unbeaten after their first 12 games of this season and sit top of the table.
Manchester United were on the wrong end of City on Sunday, losing 3-1 at the Etihad.
It was the Red Devils’ fourth league defeat already and they currently find themselves in eighth place, 12 points behind City.
Guardiola has received huge praise for the improvement he has made in some of his players since he became Manchester City boss in 2016.
England international Raheem Sterling has enjoyed a fine couple of years at club level and has already scored eight goals this season.
Smith says the progress in Sterling is indicative of the quality of Guardiola as a coach.
And he claims there is no sign of that kind of thing happening at United with Mourinho.
“The contrast with Guardiola is striking,” Smith said on The Debate.
“When you think of Raheem Sterling, the way he’s brought him on as a player.
“There is a number of performers in that City team that he’s worked really hard on.
“They were good players to start off with, but things are happening at City that just aren’t at United.”
After the international break United will look to return to winning ways when they welcome Crystal Palace to Old Trafford on November 24.
City will look to maintain their unbeaten start when they visit West Ham on the same day.
