Man Utd transfer news: Are Liverpool ruining Mourinho’s chance of signing Harry Maguire?
Maguire starred for England at the World Cup as the Three Lions reached the semi-finals in Russia.
Maguire’s value has rocketed following his strong performances with his expected value to be around £50million.
But Leicester want to keep hold of the centre-back and Daily Mail now report they will offer Maguire a new deal.
It’s claimed the 25-year-old is currently earning £45,000-a-week whereas a new deal would see him increase his wage to £75,000 every seven days.
It’s reported that Maguire’s large increase in his deal is partly down to Liverpool’s signing of Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds purchased the Dutch defender for £75m from Southampton in January.
That move has set a new level for fees for defenders and it could end Manchester United’s chance of signing Maguire.
United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to improve his defence with Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones and Daley Blind all struggling last season while Eric Bailly has been plagued by injuries.
Chris Smalling has also failed to impress consistently and Maguire could provide the perfect cure to Mourinho’s frustrations.
Maguire has already taken the places of Jones and Smalling in England’s line-up and Mourinho wants him to do the same at Old Trafford.
Should United sign Maguire, he would become Mourinho’s fourth summer signing, following Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant to Manchester United.
