Man Utd transfer news: Claude Puel makes Harry Maguire revelation
Man Utd transfer news: Claude Puel says he is confident of keeping Harry Maguire
Jose Mourinho has identified Maguire as a top target after growing frustrated over the deal for Toby Alderweireld.
Leicester though are ready to play hardball and would demand a world record fee for a defender to let him leave for Manchester United.
Maguire only joined Leicester last summer from Hull in a deal worth up to £17m.
But an impressive World Cup has seen his value rocket and Foxes boss Puel wants to keep him.
“I am confident about the presence of Harry [Maguire] for this season. He is a very good player for us,” Puel told Sky Sports News.
“I was not surprised about his performance during this World Cup. We saw his progress during the second half of the season.
“He was great and played very well. It was not a surprise to see him perform well at this level in the international game.
“Of course for us he is a very good player – I wait for him with impatience because we need Harry and we need also Jamie [Vardy] because they are Leicester.”

However Puel refused to confirm Leicester would offer him a new deal in a bid to keep him.
“For us I think we have a good squad with good ambition. We have the capacity and the ability to keep our best player and to continue to improve and to perform together,” Puel added.
“If we lose a player just a few days before the beginning of the season without the ability to replace him because the transfer window for the Premier League will finish on August 9.
“To change the scene before the start of the season is not possible. He [Maguire] can continue to perform with Leicester and improve and that is the important thing always with a young player.
“To continue with us would be a fantastic thing for him and for us of course. I am confident with this and I think we can give him good ambition and to perform together with Leicester would be the best answer.”
Mourinho has admitted he is frustrated with the club’s transfer dealings and says he wants two more players – understood to be Maguire and Ivan Perisic – but believes he will only get one before the window shuts.

Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho has only made three signings this summer
However Alderweireld and Barcelona’s Yerry Mina are options while Willian is an option in attack.
Mourinho has been told he must sell before buying more players after only three new signings this summer.
Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant have come in and Mourinho is a foul mood over the dealings.
Mourinho pulled no punches after his side’s 4-1 defeat to arch rivals Liverpool in Michigan on Saturday, saying he had got “nothing” from the game – a theme that has run throughout the crisis-hit tour of the States.
United and Liverpool drew a crowd of 101,254 to the Big House but Mourinho said he would not have bought a ticket to watch the game – which is certain to anger organisers of the International Champions Cup.
It is understood United are being paid around £30million for playing in the ICC, with Mourinho having effectively told fans to stay away from their final game against Real, a potential money-spinner for tour organisers.

“The atmosphere was good but if I was them I wouldn’t have come,” said Mourinho. “I wouldn’t have spent my money to watch these two teams.
“I watched Chelsea against Inter earlier and people had decided the beach was better. The stadium was empty.
“This is not our team, not our squad. We started the game with almost half of the players not going to belong to our squad. So this is not our squad.
“If you say reinforcements, you’re saying players I’d like to buy, to add to the squad, then that’s another thing. But this is not even 30 per cent of my squad, so don’t look to this that way.
“In relation to this game, we have four or five players who are dead, because they care for the club, for the team.
“They tried to give everything, even risking themselves because they don’t want to let all the kids do it by themselves.
Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho was in a better mood in training today
“We’re trying to play these matches as best we can. But we can’t do it. What did this game give me? Nothing at all.
“We’re not playing here to improve the team or the dynamic, we’re playing here to just survive and have some not very ugly results.”
And he vented his frustrations on the transfers.
“I would like to have two more players, but I think I’m not going to have two,” said Mourinho. “I think it’s possible I’m going to have one.
“I gave a list to my club of five names a few months ago and I’ll wait to see if it’s possible to have one of these players.
“If it’s possible it’s possible, if not, it’s not. If it’s not possible, we keep fighting and working and believing in the players that we have.”
