Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho stopped from signing Ivan Perisic due to two players
Manchester United boss Mourinho is under pressure to deliver at Old Trafford with his doom and gloom mood threatening to derail their plans for the new Premier League season.
The Red Devils boss is pursuing two more signings with Perisic one of the players on his list of transfer targets.
The Inter Milan winger enjoyed a stellar World Cup campaign for Croatia, scoring three times from seven outings including in the 4-2 final defeat against France.
A year ago, Manchester United were locked in talks with Inter over a £50million deal but the club hierarchy ultimately chose to walk away.
And the Manchester Evening News say United refused to sign Perisic because of two players.
It is said the club were concerned about shelling out for a player in their late twenties.
However, that did not stop them from swapping Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Alexis Sanchez back in January.
The MEN say United were mindful of the impact Perisic’s arrival would have on Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
However, Martial went off the boil the minute Sanchez touched down from Arsenal seven months ago.
Rashford made more of an effort to fight for his place but the England international, once again, is in line for more time on the bench.
Mourinho would relish the chance to welcome Perisic to Old Trafford but Inter will demand a huge £60m to let him go.
And Inter boss Luciano Spalletti recently ruled out the Croatian’s departure, saying: “In the last few days I talked to Perisic who finished the celebrations.
“He told me he is mentally tired and in terms of energy.
“He must recover but he has not told me anything that concerns his desire to stay here in Milan.”
