Man Utd transfer news: Toby Alderweireld drops hint over his Tottenham future
Alderweireld has hit an impasse with Tottenham over contract talks and is demanding more than the £50,000 a week he currently takes home.
The Belgium international has a complex clause in his contract which could be triggered and see him leave for just £25million next summer.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy appears to be resigned to losing Alderweireld, who featured just 14 times in the Premier League last term due to a combination of injuries and contract talks.
Manchester United are thought to be ready to pay as much as £55m to bring the 29-year-old to Old Trafford.
Negotiations over a deal are supposedly underway and Jose Mourinho wants to bring in one more fresh face in before the World Cup starts, although the likelihood of that appears to be remote with the tournament starting tomorrow.
And Alderweireld has suggested he could be open to staying in north London.
“Yeah, why not? I have two years left on my contract,” he said when quizzed about his future.
“I don’t know what is going to happen.”
Alderweireld, who is on World Cup duty with Belgium, will come up against plenty of familiar faces when his side face England in the group stages.
And he thinks the Three Lions have a different ‘vibe’ about them and could go far in the tournament.
He added: “There is a new vibe coming. They have wonderful players, not just stars but players who want to become better.
“I think they are going to have a very good World Cup.
“England can do whatever they want if they are on it. They are a very good team.
“I know most of the players. They have the right mentality to go far now. They have quality and desire, players with a good attitude.”
