Marcus Rashford has urged his Manchester United teammates to improve their mentality following their loss to Cardiff City on the final day of the Premier League season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ended their campaign with a dismal defeat to Neil Warnock’s men at Old Trafford and finished outside the Champions League places in sixth position in the Premier League.

Solskjaer was furious with his side after the poor result and has already warned his players that they are in for a tough pre-season schedule when they return on July 1.

Rashford, meanwhile, has been heavily criticised for his performances towards the end of United’s season having failed to score in his final eight appearances.

And the 21-year-old admits United need to show a response after their poor campaign.

‘Next season we need to get back to how Manchester United play, for me that’s most important,’ Rashford posted on Twitter.

‘We need to find that willingness and respond the right way.’

Meanwhile, Solskjaer has reiterated that he is ready to give several young players a chance to impress at United next season with Tahith Chong, James Garner, Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes all featuring since the Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho in December.

‘I have to say it’s nice for them to get a full season somewhere and play but, then again, maybe the best place to be is here, training with the best players in the world,’ said the United manager.

‘In this environment, we’ve got a history of making them [young players] the best but we’ve got loads of good experiences of players being out for a year and coming back as men.

‘Let’s see what we decide with these boys but I can see most staying here and getting their chances next year.’
