Mohamed Salah posts update as Liverpool sweat on fitness ahead of Premier League return | Football | Sport
Salah has struggled to hit the heights of last season so far this term.
The Egypt star has scored three in eight Premier League games but has not been at his scintillating best.
And he picked up a knock in the win over Swaziland on Friday night and is returning to Merseyside ahead of another game against the same opponents tomorrow.
Egypt were forced to confirm he picked up an injury after claims of an agreement between them and Liverpool to only let Salah play once.
“These allegations are incorrect,” a spokesman said. “Each player joins the team with a medical report on his condition. Each player also has a medical report.
“Liverpool report [sic] did not require anything. But Salah was injured in the first game. He will not be able to play the second game.”
And Salah has posted an update on Instagram to his 20.1m followers of him preparing to fly back to Liverpool.
Liverpool are now waiting to see his condition this week before deciding if he will play against Huddersfield.
Salah has only scored once in his last eight games for Liverpool and looks short on fitness after last season’s shoulder injury and the World Cup.
The Reds though remain level on points with Manchester City and Chelsea after their goalless draw with City at Anfield.
The Huddersfield clash will see Jurgen Klopp come up against former colleague David Wagner, whose side are third bottom and still without a win.
Liverpool themselves are without a win in four with two defeats and two draws and need to bounce back to keep the pressure on.
The Reds could also be without Virgil van Dijk this weekend after he picked up an injury with Holland and James Milner is undergoing treatment after he went off during the City game.
