Real Madrid news: Chelsea expect Eden Hazard to leave with Cristiano Ronaldo key to deal | Football | Sport
Real Madrid have been heavily backed to lure Hazard away from Chelsea, with the player himself repeatedly talking up a move to La Liga.
The Belgium international has started the season in stunning form, firing Maurizio Sarri’s side to within touching distance of the Premier League summit.
Real Madrid, contrastingly, are toiling in La Liga. Without Ronaldo, they lack an attacking spearhead capable of chipping in with goals galore.
Chelsea are hoping to tie Hazard down to a new deal, with his current contract expiring in 2020.
Yet Spanish website Ok Diario say the Blues are resigned to their star asset jumping ship.
And Ronaldo, it seems, is key.
Real reportedly view Hazard as a player capable of scaling the same commercial heights Ronaldo himself managed.
Since his exit, their stock has plummeted – as well as the level of their performances on the pitch.
While Neymar is understood to be their great obsession, Ok Diario say Real also have other considerations when it comes to Neymar.
The Chelsea ace would instantly become a focal point of their attack.
And they can promise Hazard the chance to regularly compete for the Champions League – a trophy the club have won for the last three years.
They also feel Hazard’s attitude would make him a key signing, as he always plays at 100 per cent.
And Real also feel the Chelsea star would jump ship having recently expressed a desire to win the Ballon d’Or.
A January transfer, though, looks unlikely.
Hazard himself recently said: “Chelsea were clear with me (in the summer).
“I couldn’t leave the club. I accepted it. Anyway… leaving or staying, I was going to be happy. I do not regret this decision at all.
“When decisions are made you can sulk and often you get the last word.
“But I will never look to clash with the club. Chelsea have given me a lot.
“I left Lille on good terms and I want to do the same thing here.
“A transfer in January? It’s not possible.”
